What we believe…
The Costa Blanca English Church is an inclusive spiritual community where all are welcome, regardless of background, identity, or past experiences.
Rooted in Jesus’s teachings of radical love and compassion, we create a warm, judgment-free space where questions are valued, doubts are honoured, and authentic spiritual growth is nurtured. We believe faith is a journey best travelled together—supporting one another through life’s joys and challenges while serving the wider community with compassion.

Our values and beliefs:
Whether you’re seeking a spiritual home, have felt unwelcome elsewhere, or simply wish to explore faith in a more open and thoughtful way, we invite you to join our diverse family where God’s unconditional love is at the center of all we do. Here, you’ll find not rigid religion, but genuine relationships, meaningful connection, and the freedom to be authentically yourself. Our main beliefs are stated here. These really cover the surface but give you a better understanding of our mission and our understandings and values. You can click each one for full information and references:
We believe in a loving God who welcomes everyone, without exception.
In our community, we embrace God’s radical welcome that extends to all people regardless of age, race, gender, sexuality, economic status, or past experiences. We see this reflected in Jesus’s own ministry where he consistently reached out to those marginalized by society.
Biblical References: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
“There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)
We follow Jesus's example of radical love, inclusion, and compassion.
Jesus demonstrated a revolutionary approach to love that broke social barriers, challenged unjust systems, and elevated the dignity of all people. We strive to follow this example by practicing compassion and standing with those who face rejection or discrimination.
Biblical References: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John 13:34)
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)
We believe Christianity is about how we live and love, not where we worship.
We understand faith as a way of living rather than merely attending services. Authentic spirituality manifests in how we treat others, make ethical choices, and engage with the world around us. The building is less important than the community and its actions.
Biblical References: “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” (James 1:27)
We read the Bible thoughtfully, recognizing it was written in specific historical contexts and requires interpretation for modern life.
Scripture speaks through ancient voices addressing ancient situations, yet contains timeless wisdom. We approach the Bible with respect for its historical context, recognition of translation complexities, and attention to its overarching themes of love, justice, and redemption rather than isolated verses.
Biblical References: “The letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (2 Corinthians 3:6)
“You have heard that it was said… but I tell you…” (Matthew 5:21-22) – Jesus himself reinterpreted scripture for his time.
We welcome questions, doubts, and spiritual exploration as valuable parts of faith.
Faith that has wrestled with questions often emerges stronger and more authentic. We create space for honest exploration, believing that God is big enough for our doubts and that questioning can lead to deeper understanding and spiritual growth.
Biblical References: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)
“Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24)
We affirm that all people deserve dignity and respect, regardless of background, identity, or belief.
Every person bears the divine imprint and deserves to be treated with dignity. We reject judgments based on nationality, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, economic status, or other human distinctions, recognizing our common humanity and spiritual worth.
Biblical References: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27)
“My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism.” (James 2:1)
We believe in creating a spiritual family where everyone belongs without judgment.
Jesus created a community where people from diverse backgrounds found acceptance. We strive to be a spiritual family where each person can be authentically themselves, sharing life’s joys and struggles together, and supporting one another’s growth.
Biblical References: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)
“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” (Romans 15:7)
We value authentic spiritual growth over rigid religious rules.
We believe spiritual maturity comes through love, wisdom, and character development rather than through perfect adherence to religious regulations. God cares more about the condition of our hearts and how we treat others than about following specific rituals or traditions.
Biblical References: “The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 14:17)
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices… But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness.” (Matthew 23:23)
We celebrate the diversity of human experience as something that enriches our community.
God created a wonderfully diverse world, and we believe our differences in background, perspective, and gifts help us understand God more fully. When people with varied experiences come together, we gain a richer, more complete picture of divine love. This is particularly relevant to the wonderful culture-rich area of Spain in which we are so lucky to live.
Biblical References: “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-5)
“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:9)
We believe in the healing power of forgiveness, grace, and second chances.
Transformation is at the heart of the Christian story. We embrace the reality that people can change, healing is possible, and no one is defined by their worst mistakes. We practice forgiveness because we all need it, and we celebrate new beginnings.
Biblical References: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” (Colossians 3:13)
We see faith as a journey rather than a destination.
Spiritual growth happens over a lifetime of experiences, questions, and insights. We don’t expect instant perfection but value the ongoing process of becoming more loving, just, and compassionate people through our relationship with God and others.
Biblical References: “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” (Philippians 3:12)
We commit to supporting each other through life's joys and challenges.
Community means showing up for one another in all of life’s seasons. We celebrate together in times of joy, comfort one another in sorrow, and provide practical and emotional support when needed, recognizing that we’re called to carry each other’s burdens.
Biblical References: “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” (Romans 12:15)
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)
We believe God continues to speak to us today through many voices and experiences.
While scripture provides our foundation, we recognize that God’s voice can be heard in contemporary experiences, in the wisdom of diverse communities, in nature, in art, and in the movements of justice and compassion in our world today.
Biblical References: “Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.” (Acts 2:17)
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” (Psalm 19:1)
We affirm that love is love, and all loving relationships deserve honor and respect.
We believe that loving, committed relationships reflect God’s love regardless of gender or sexuality. We honor the sacred bonds that bring people together in mutual care, respect, and commitment, celebrating the many ways love manifests in human relationships.
Biblical References: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8)
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” (1 Corinthians 13:4)
We believe that faith should inspire action and service to others.
Authentic faith moves us beyond belief to action. We’re called not just to believe the right things but to serve others, work for justice, and make a positive difference in the world around us, particularly for those who are vulnerable or marginalized.
Biblical References: “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds?” (James 2:14)
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
We welcome those who haven't felt at home in traditional churches.
Many people have experienced hurt, exclusion, or judgment in religious settings. We create a safe space especially for those who have felt unwelcome elsewhere, believing that God’s embrace is wider and more inclusive than human institutions have often represented.
Biblical References: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
We trust that asking difficult questions strengthens rather than weakens faith.
Authentic faith can withstand questioning and examination. We encourage critical thinking, open dialogue about challenging topics, and honest wrestling with difficult aspects of theology, scripture, and tradition, believing this leads to more mature spiritual understanding.
Biblical References: “Test everything. Hold on to what is good.” (1 Thessalonians 5:21)
“The people of Berea were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” (Acts 17:11)
We believe in meeting people where they are on their spiritual journey.
Everyone’s spiritual path is unique. We respect each person’s pace of growth, recognizing that people come with different backgrounds, questions, and needs. We emphasize accompaniment rather than imposing uniform expectations or timelines.
Biblical References: “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.” (1 Corinthians 9:22)
“A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.” (Isaiah 42:3)
We value inclusivity, accessibility, and genuine community connection.
We strive to remove barriers that keep people from full participation in our community, whether physical, linguistic, cultural, or attitudinal. We work to ensure our gatherings, communications, and leadership reflect our commitment to welcoming everyone.
Biblical References: “For the Lord your God…defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing.” (Deuteronomy 10:17-18)
“For the body does not consist of one member but of many… The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I have no need of you.'” (1 Corinthians 12:14, 21)
We believe the message of Jesus transcends religious institutions and traditions.
While we value our Christian heritage, we recognize that Jesus’s message of love, justice, and reconciliation extends beyond denominational boundaries. We remain open to wisdom from diverse spiritual traditions while centered in Jesus’s example of transformative love.
Biblical References: “I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also.” (John 10:16)
“Then Peter began to speak: ‘I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.'” (Acts 10:34-35)
